    Physicians Urgent Care suspends services

Physicians Urgent Care at Griffiss is suspending its services, effective Wednesday, April 8, to centralize clinical resources to best meet the community’s needs, announced Rome Memorial Hospital’s Vice President of Physician Practices Rosemel Atkinson.

“With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are strategically adapting our clinical resources among our practices to best meet the community’s needs,” Atkinson said, explaining that telehealth services have enhanced accessibility at all of the hospital’s affiliated primary care and specialty practices.

In addition, the hospital’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day for injuries or illnesses that need immediate attention.

The demand for urgent care has decreased as more people stay home to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Governor Cuomo extended his order directing schools and nonessential businesses to stay closed through Wednesday, Apr. 29.

“The expanded telehealth services support social distancing recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic and also address the transportation barriers that many of our patients face,” Atkinson said.
