    Starting Thursday, May 9, the hospital will begin a free three-week series of smoking cessation classes. Register now and you can earn a $20 grocery gift card when you complete the program.

    Rome Memorial Hospital names director of Relationship Based Care
    Amy Carissimo-Harris, RN, BS, has been named director of Relationship Based Care at Rome Memorial Hospital, announced David Lundquist, president/chief executive officer. 
    Carissimo-Harris has spent 20 of her 25 years of nursing experience at Rome Memorial Hospital including 15 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the past four as director of Infection Prevention. 
    RMH Therapist Helps Parkinson's Disease Patients(2)
    Rome Memorial Hospital Therapy Services now has a certified therapist to treat speech and voice disorders in people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and other neurological disorders. 
    Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Early symptoms include soft or slurred speech.
    Speech-Language Pathologist, Melissa Flury, MS, CCC-SLP, holds an advanced certification from the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) program, a one-on-one behavioral treatment that is customized to the unique communication goals of each individual. 
    April Support Group Open to the Public
    Life’s challenges such as quitting smoking for good, overcoming illness or treatment, or facing life changes, can sometimes be overwhelming. When that happens, discovering a network of support, friendship and hope helps people learn how to cope. It can be helpful to meet and talk with people who know exactly what you are going through, because they have been there, too.The free drop-in support group, “Give it a Whirl for Wellness,” is a creative way to socialize, help and be helped by others with similar conditions or circumstances.The free meetings, centered around a creative activity led by the Center for Family Life and Recovery, are held Mondays at Rome Memorial Hospital Radiation Medicine, 107 E. Chestnut St., Rome. 
    Apply for Hospital's VolunTeens Program
    A summer volunteer program at Rome Memorial Hospital will provide youths, aged 15 to 20, an opportunity to earn hours toward their high school community service requirements or gain insight into the health care field. Those accepted into the VolunTeens program will become a valuable asset to the hospital, its patients and visitors and experience a variety of activities in a hospital setting. Applications are now available online by going to the hospital’s website www.romehospital.org and clicking on volunteers. Deadline for submitting an application is Friday, May 17.
    Breastfeeding Café opens at Rome Memorial Hospital
    The Mohawk Valley Breastfeeding Network in partnership with Rome Memorial Hospital is opening a new “Breastfeeding Café to provide pregnant and breastfeeding moms and their families a place to support one another, socialize and get breastfeeding clinical support if needed. Beginning Friday, April 12, the group will meet the second and fourth Fridays of the month from noon to 2 p.m. at Rome Memorial Hospital, fourth floor, 1500 N. James St. There is no cost to participate and mothers can bring their babies to be weighed at the hospital’s “Weigh-to-Go” station. Snacks will be provided. Dads and grandparents are welcome.

    Six-week course to prepare parents for labor and delivery. Instruction is based on the Lamaze fundamentals of childbirth.
